About

Hello, and thanks for stopping by!

My name is Lia Spencer and I am a freelance journalist, creative writer, and a mother of three young kids (and a Chocolate Labrador named Gigi).

I grew up in a small Canadian town nestled in the Canadian prairies and received a BA Sociology from the University of Saskatchewan in 2006. Shortly after, I moved to Australia and completed a Journalism Degree from Monash University. I now live in Melbourne's southeast and love day-trips and weekend getaways with my family and friends to explore the diverse area- from the beaches at Phillip Island to Wilson’s Prom, the wine regions at Yarra Valley to Mornington Peninsula, and the endless adventures in the city to the peaks of the alpine regions.

I’ve been lucky enough to explore beautiful places and meet amazing people through my 15+ year career in print media- both newspapers and magazines. I have covered a range of topics in a number of areas including travel, healthcare, parenting, crime, politics, education, business, lifestyle, weddings, arts and entertainment and more.

I also dabble in fiction and am forever writing stories- many which are tucked away in a drawer waiting to be revised for the tenth time. My debut novel, A Plan Unravelled, was released in July 2019 by Elephant House Press.

I love meeting new people and accepting new challenges. Drop me a line if you want to get in touch or to view further samples of my work.
